How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Wheelchair Accessible Car or Van?
When it comes to the price of wheelchair car hire, there are several factors involved. It depends on which type of adapted vehicle you require and of course, how long you need the rental vehicle. There is also a huge spectrum of vehicles available to choose from with differing levels of adaptation and onboard equipment to assist the driver or passengers, so the price is based on your exact needs.

Which Adapted Vehicle Is Best for Me?
There are two main categories when it comes to mobility vehicles.
Wheelchair accessible vehicles are cars and vans that are kitted our for wheelchair users and have the capacity to take a wheelchair and is equipped with a lift mechanism or ramp to the wheelchair in and out of the car with ease.
Adapted vehicles have driving adaptions that allow disabled drivers to drive in comfort and with ease such as hand and pedal controls.
Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) Hire
All of our WAVs available to hire will have either a powered lift or ramp with a powered winch. Some of our wheelchair friendly cars and vans have a lowered rear floor. Wheelchair accessible vehicles allow wheelchair users to travel in the vehicle without having to leave the chair making commuting far easier. Our wheelchair vehicles all come with anchor straps for the wheelchair and a safety belt for the passenger.
- Smaller wheelchair accessible vehicles such as the Ford Connect Freedom generally hold one wheelchair and then three passengers including the driver.
- Medium wheelchair vehicles hold one or two depending on the model such as the Peugeot Expert Tepee and can also carry 3-5 passengers
- Larger wheelchair vans can hold up to three wheelchairs and up to seven passengers such as the Ford Transit Multiliner.
Adapted Vehicle Hire
We have a number of adapted vehicle hire options available to make driving straightforward.
- Push-pull hand controls are available for people who cannot use standard floor pedals and mean the vehicle can be driven using just your hands via the single lever push-pull hand controls.
- Steering wheel aids or steering balls work alongside hand controls and aid steering control.
- Left foot accelerators are available for those without the use of their right leg and these vehicles are equipped with a ‘flip style’ pedal.
- Bluetooth functionality enables drivers with limited mobility to operate other functions in the car using a keypad to control secondary controls like indicators, lights, the horn and wipers.
