Reasons Why Recovery Truck Hire is a Wise Choice Over Towing
Reasons Why Recovery Truck Hire is a Wise Choice Over Towing

SVH provide clients with replacement car transporters for various reasons. Learn more about why hiring a recovery truck is a safer alternative to towing a vehicle.

Recovery Truck Hire

At SVH we help our clients get equipped with specialist vehicles such as car transporters so that they can continue to work, or make use of our equipment to move another vehicle from A to B. Our 3.5t tonne beaver tail car transporters are the ideal vehicle to move a single car and a popular choice with a number of our clients, while if you have a slightly larger vehicle to move such as a 4x4 or van then our 7.5t recovery truck would be best.

Using a purpose built recovery truck makes the process of transporting a car, machinery or even small boats or jet skis as seems popular here on the South Coast is certainly beneficial when it comes to safety.

Avoid the Dangers of Towing - Rent A Recovery Truck

There is a number of downsides to not using a specialist recovery truck and towing a vehicle with the one being that it’s not the safest option. Before towing a vehicle, you should consider the following.

You’ll Need the Correct Towing Equipment

If you are going to tow a car or another vehicle, you are going to need the correct equipment, which can be an unwanted and costly outlay, especially if it is rare that you need to transport vehicles. When you aren’t towing, you will also need a large storage space to keep the equipment whether that is taking up outside space at your house, or needing to rent storage elsewhere. It is imperative that if you do tow a vehicle that equipment is not a mismatch as a compromised hitch and coupler combination could end in disaster. Should you choose to tow a vehicle, never use a rope or tow strap for an extended journey.

At SVH, we can provide you with a purpose built recovery truck to hire for a short or long-term period at a competitive price so you will not need to pay for any expensive equipment or find a space to keep it.

Restricted Visibility

Remember when towing your visibility is likely to be impaired dependent on the length and height of the vehicle. It is also worth considering that your acceleration is going to be slower than normal making passing other vehicles more time consuming. You are likely to be a wider and longer unit than you are used to, so you will need to be aware of this when on the road. Equally towing at excessive speeds can damage both your vehicle and trailer and it can be trickier to control the speed on hilly terrain.

Awkward Turning and Parking

Cornering will require wider turns and so in order to avoid hitting any kerbs and you will need to corner more slowly than normal to prevent any mishaps. Your equipment will also have an impact on how it easy it is to manoeuvre.

Braking When Towing

The additional mass when towing will make braking distances longer than when you are normally driving. It will also put more wear and tear on the brakes of your existing vehicle. There is also a risk of jack knifing when towing a trailer or vehicle along the road.

Many Vehicles Simply are Designed to Tow

While there are trailers available to fit almost any car, SUV or 4x4, it is likely to be damaging to the majority of these vehicles. If the car is not built for towing, it can cause a great deal of damage to the engine, gears and suspension. A better option would be to rent a vehicle designed to tow or transport heavy loads such as car transporter from our fleet.

How much is it to hire a recovery truck?

We have large tilt and slide recovery trucks as well as smaller beavertails so the cost to hire a recovery truck will vary depending on your requirements. Not only this the cost will also be impacted by the duration of the hire, but our team will be happy to discuss this with you and put together a quote based on your requirements.

Self-drive recovery truck hire also means that you won’t need to pay a driver as you can transport your load yourself. Our team will also be able to discuss any additional driving licence questions you may have and can provide a demonstration of how to safely load the truck.

Clients Who Make Use of Our Recovery Truck Hire

At SVH, we assist a variety of clients with various recovery truck requirements. We help insurance companies source replacement trucks for their customers who need a replacement model when their own is off the road. For many of these customers, it is imperative that they can back on the road as often their livelihood depends on the vehicle.

Aside from insurance companies, we help those who operate recovery breakdown businesses when they need to hire an additional vehicle to cover extra workload. Throughout the winter for example, when more cars break down, SVH often assist these businesses by sourcing like for like vehicles so that they can pick up more work. In the motor industry, there are times when cars that have been sold need to move around on a recovery truck to the buyer’s home or to and from various showroom locations.

We also help individual clients who occasionally need to move a motor vehicle. Perhaps they bought or sold a car privately and need to move it from one place to another, or they need to transport a vehicle to a specialist garage for repairs. We even help those who attend car shows with their vehicle safely transport their pride and joy.
